Instead this adaptation focuses only on Mowgli and his lost childhood friend Kitty (Lena Heady) and him learning about what civilization should be like. You never really feel his relationship with the wolves, Baloo or Bagheera, who aren't given much screentime at all during the entire movie. The only thing that bothers me, is the time jump from Mowgli being a little boy to him becoming a fully grown "Tarzan". The animals don't talk in this interpretation of Rudyard Kipling's books, which is quite a pleasant surprise, we're talking Disney here after all. I'm not really sure why this isn't on Disney+ either (At least here in Austria it isn't), but that's probably just because Disney sucks nowadays. This Jungle Book adaptation has a great cast, featuring John Cleese, Sam Neil, Lena Headey, Jason Flemyng and Cary Elwes, so I'm really not sure how I didn't find out about it sooner. He reminded me a lot of Tarzan, which isn't a bad thing, I always liked Tarzan. This version, just like the 1998 Jungle Book movie, is more of a reinterpretation of the actual Jungle Book(s), than a remake of the 1967 movie, this time focusing on adult Mowgli, who never found his way back into civilization as a kid. As far as I know, this is the first of Disneys live-action remakes. Yet another live-action Jungle Book movie by Disney I wasn't aware of.
